    Resource Profile:

    1. Overview of tools

The IISMonitor is a powerfulWeb monitoringand IISautomatic rebootTool designed to help administrators monitor website availability. IISMonitor will automatically restart the IIS server when it detects that a web page is inaccessible and restart the computer if the IIS restart still fails to restore it, thus ensuring that the website returns to normal operation. This tool is especially suitable for coping with IIS fake death or lag phenomenon, and can restore website service through a simple restart operation.

The core features of the tool include:

    • Regularly check the availability of web pages.
    • Automatically restarts IIS when a web page fails.
    • If the IIS restart does not work, the computer is restarted automatically.
    • Supports email notifications and allows administrators to keep track of monitoring in real time.
    • Supports automatic startup as a Windows service on boot to ensure continuous running in the background.

IISMonitor is a green software, no need to install after download, you can run it directly after unzipping, it is suitable for Windows operating system and needs to run on the IIS server side.

It should be noted that IISMonitor's IIS restart is only a temporary solution, if there is a problem with the system or application, it should be solved completely by in-depth investigation of the root cause.

    2. Workflow

The default monitoring and restart process for IISMonitor is as follows:

    1. Visit the monitored web page every 10 seconds.
    2. If the web page fails to be accessed twice in a row, the system will restart IIS automatically.
    3. If the IIS restart does not work, the system will restart the computer automatically.
    4. The monitoring continues after the computer is restarted. If the web page cannot be restored after two consecutive restarts of the computer, the system terminates the monitoring and sends an e-mail to notify the administrator.

These default settings can be adjusted according to actual needs. The main monitoring parameters include web page URL, monitoring frequency, IIS restart command, computer restart command and trigger conditions.

    3. Parameterization in detail

    (1) How to monitor and reboot (Settings - Monitoring Methods)
In this section, users can configure the web page URLs to be monitored, monitoring frequency, IIS restart method and computer restart conditions.

    • Monitor the Web site: Specify the web page address to be monitored.
    • monitoring interval: Set the time interval for web page detection (e.g. 10 seconds).
    • IIS Restart Command: Specify the command to restart IIS (e.g.iisreset /restart)。
    • Reboot Trigger Conditions: Set the number of times a web page access fails, triggering an IIS or computer reboot.
    • computer reboot command: Set the command to restart the computer (e.g.shutdown.exe -r)。

    (2) Mail notification settings (Settings - Mail notification)
This section defines how IISMonitor sends email notifications when an event occurs, including settings for which events need to be notified, email recipients, and senders.

    • Notification of events: Optional event notification for IIS restart, computer reboot, or monitoring termination.
    • To: (email header): Sets the e-mail address for receiving notifications.
    • Sending Account Number: Set the mailbox account and SMTP server information for sending emails.

    (3) Monitoring Status View (Status - Monitoring Operations)
This section displays the current monitoring status, including the monitoring start time, the number of web pages that have been monitored, the number of IIS restarts, and other information, which makes it easy for administrators to understand the operation of the system.

    4. How to continue monitoring after a computer reboot

IISMonitor can automatically resume monitoring after a computer reboot, but you need to make sure that the program can start automatically at boot time. There are two ways to realize this function:

    1. boot directory: Add IISMonitor to the boot startup item to run automatically in the foreground. The operation method is:
      • Go to the “Start” menu, select “All Programs” → “Startup” → right-click and select “Browse”. Find the startup directory and create a shortcut to IISMonitor.
    2. Conversion to Windows Services: UseAddIISMonitorService.batConverts IISMonitor into a Windows service that runs automatically in the background without human intervention. This can be accomplished byRemoveIISMonitorService.batUninstall this service.
